Breaking News: TN’s Attorney General Calls Ag-Gag Bill ‘Constitutionally Suspect’

There’s been a massive outcry from divergent groups against TN’s ag-gag bill, which passed the legislature and landed on the governor’s desk last Friday. The governor will either veto the bill or allow it to become law by Monday of next week. Now TN’s Attorney General Robert Cooper has chimed in against the bill, calling it constitutionally questionable.

National GMO Labeling Bills Introduced in House and Senate

'GMO We Wanna Know' signSen. Barbara Boxer (D-Ca.) and Rep. Peter DeFazio (D. Ore.) introduced legislation this week that would require labeling of all foods containing GMO ingredients. Unlike California’s Prop 37, which attempted to tackle the issue last November, The Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Actwould require labeling for beef, dairy, chicken, and turkey products as well as other GMO-containing foods — the proposed requirement would apply to all foods regulated by both the FDA and USDA.

We’ll see if it works — I’m very certain Monsanto et al will pull no punches, in trying to squelch it. But for now: good work! The labeling tide seems to be turning against the biotech behemoths — read the full article here, via EatDrinkBetter.

California kills its ag-gag bill! Help keep the momentum going!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGreat news!  ”A California bill that would have limited undercover farm animal abuse investigations has been pulled by its author amid stiff and growing opposition,” ABC News reported today.  Legislation is still pending in many states, though, so find out if there’s ag-gag afoot in your area, and let your representatives know how much you think it stinks!  And please spread the word far and wide– these bills simply cannot survive under the light of public scrutiny.  Good work, CA!
